Flint, Mich – The Genesee Intermediate School District Board of Education is excited to announce Dr. Paul Newman as its newest board member. The board selected Dr. Newman during a public meeting Tuesday, August 7, 2018, following public interviews with several candidates. Dr. Newman will fill the board seat vacated recently by Dale Green who relocated out of state after serving on the board for 13 years. James Johnson was selected last month to fill the seat however; he stepped down for personal reasons.

Paul Newman first joined the GISD Board of Education in 1990, and remained a member for over 20 years. He also served on the Board of Education for Flint Community Schools from 1972 to 1993. He has served on a number of local and state boards including the Michigan Association of School Boards, the International Institute of Flint Board of Directors and Genesee County Education Foundation Board of Directors.

Newman retired from General Motors in 1995 and went on to work for the YWCA, from which he is now retired.

“I have been an active member of this community since the 60s and have no plans of slowing down,” said Dr. Paul Newman. “I want to continue to be part of the growth and progress that is taking place here, especially when it comes to our children and the educational programs and services being provided.”

Dr. Newman will fulfill the remainder of James Johnson’s term, until June 30, 2019.
