School Nutrition and Food Service

nutrition

GISD's Center for Countywide Programs staff convene stakeholders and provide statewide training courses to food service staff in a variety of areas. We also provide technical assistance to food service programs and facilitate the cooperative purchasing of dairy and bakery products via the Mid-Michigan East School Nutrition Association, which includes a number of counties in mid-Michigan.

Nutrition Education

The GISD receives federal funding from the USDA's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) to provide nutrition education and physical activity promotion in Genesee and Shiawassee Counties. The GISD is dedicated to using these funds to create a better future in our communities by working towards fighting childhood obesity, improving our community's health and increasing access to fruits and vegetables and physical activity.
