Overview

Pursuant to Section 4 of the Michigan Freedom of Information Act, MCL 15.234, (the "FOIA" or the "Act") the Genesee Intermediate School District (GISD) has established procedures and guidelines to facilitate access to information by the general public. There is a written summary that outlines the basic procedure for submitting a FOIA request in accordance with GISD Board Policies 8310 - Public Records and 8350 - Confidentiality. The summary and the full FOIA Procedures and Guidelines are available by selecting the links below:

Submitting a Request

GISD requires individuals or entities to submit FOIA requests in writing. FOIA requests may be mailed to the following address:

FOIA Coordinator
Genesee Intermediate School District
2413 West Maple Avenue
Flint, Michigan 48507-3493

An individual or entity may also make a written request in person at GISD's Erwin L. Davis Education Center, email a request to [email protected], or fax a request to (810) 591-4420.

FOIA Fee Information

The Michigan FOIA allows for GISD to charge fees in connection with requests made for public records, except as noted or as provided for otherwise in the FOIA.

Fees include the labor cost of records search, examination, review, separation, and deletion of exempt from non-exempt information, redacting exempt information, and copying and scanning. Labor fees shall be calculated using the wage of the lowest-paid GISD employee capable of searching for, locating, and examining the requested public records. Other fees associated with a FOIA request shall include costs for duplication and mailing/shipping.
