Vanita Wilson ACTE Award

The Genesee Intermediate School District is honored to announce that Vanita Wilson, Counselor for Career & Technical Education at Genesee Career Institute was named Counseling & Career Development Professional of the Year. The Michigan Association for Career & Technical Education (ACTE) recognized educators, administrators, and businesses in the field of CTE during the ACTE Region 1 Conference held in New York City.

During the ACTE Region I Conference, Michigan’s CTE professionals and partnerships stood out among the competition from 14 other states. The winners from Michigan swept each category and will now advance to compete at the National ACTE Awards against finalists from other regions.

"I am honored and surprised by the award,” stated Vanita Wilson, CTE Counselor at GCI. “Every counselor has the same heart to help kids make it through the difficult times in their lives and come out on the other side healthy and successful. I'm proud to be a part of a group of professionals who share this passion."

The Genesee ISD congratulates all of the winners for their dedication and contributions to the advancement of CTE. The exemplary work provided by these winners serves as an inspiration and a testament to the ongoing commitment to excellence within Michigan’s CTE community.

“We are proud to see Vanita recognized for the work that she does on behalf of the students at GCI. She has a tremendous ability to offer career advice and social emotional support while uncovering resources to break down student barriers,” stated Diana Allard, Executive Director of CTE at Genesee ISD. “She works tirelessly to ensure that counselors across the county have GCI program information and support as they consider appropriate placements for their students. We are grateful to have Vanita on our team!”
